Master Clinician Mary Margaret Gleason M.D.: Infant and Early Childhood Psychiatry in the Public Sector: Delivering Quality Care when Resources are Low
Dr. Gleason is triple board trained in pediatrics, psychiatry, and child and adolescent psychiatry, with additional training in infant psychiatry. To bridge the gap between pediatric and child psychiatric care, she has developed several successful models of consultative care for young children in primary care. Dr. Gleason and other experts worked to develop and validate a screening tool to enhance early identification of young children with mental health problems; as well as develop an evidence-informed practice guideline for the use of pharmacological agents in young children. Dr. Gleason is assistant professor at the Tulane University School of Medicine, where her work focuses on young children exposed to adversity, including poverty and violence. Dr. Gleason discusses delivery of quality mental health care to very young children in poverty and low resource communities.
