College Student Mental Health
Child and adolescent psychiatrists (CAPs) often see adolescents who are transitioning to college and need help in doing so. This SIG provides AACAP members an opportunity to talk about the nature and extent of their involvement in the treatment of youth transitioning to college and to share their relevant questions, concerns, experiences, and ideas to better address treatment needs and the role of the CAP in aiding patients with the transition. The current status of available mental health services for college students is reviewed, legal considerations pertinent to the care of this population are outlined, and ideas to improve access to and utilization of available services are explored.
