Systems of Care Special Program: Youth and Young Adults in Transition: Issues for Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists and Service Systems
This program provides child psychiatrists and other mental health providers with the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to better serve individuals with mental health challenges during their transitional age years (ages ~15-~25). Child and adolescent psychiatrists (CAPs) can have a number of different roles working with youth and young adults in the transition years – as a diagnostician, therapist, psychopharmacologist, treatment team member, and advocate. In order to be effective in these various roles, CAPs must have the background and skills to address the needs of these youth and young adults, be able to work with other clinical and support agency staff, and provide leadership in reviewing needs for quality improvement and system change.
