Workshop 26 (sold out)
Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder in DSM-5: How to Diagnose and Treat
Presenters explain factors that led to the development of the newly defined Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) in DSM-5. This Workshop focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of three main types of ARFID that are characterized by 1) apparent lack or interest in eating or food, 2) avoidance based on the sensory characteristics of food, and 3) concern about aversive consequences of eating. Clinical vignettes illustrate how to diagnose and treat children of different ages with the three main subtypes of ARFID and the need for different interventions depending on the subtype of ARFID and the age of the child.
