School Mental Health Delivery Models: Sustainability, Relevance, and Collaboration Within the Primary Care Model

Child and adolescent psychiatrists (CAPs) are greatly needed to help with children struggling with emotional and behavioral issues in the educational system. Providing treatment where these students “are” appears to be an effective plan. There are various ways that CAPs can be integrated into the school system – consultation services, liaison services, direct provider of services, and others. Presenters explain the role of a CAP in providing mental health services in school-based settings; describe challenges CAPs face when working with youth in various school environments; and discuss three models in which CAPs work within an educational system.
