Workshop 19 (sold out)
Parent Training for Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists
Parent behavioral management training (PBMT) is widely considered one of the most effective interventions in the treatment of problem behaviors in children and adolescents with internalizing and externalizing behaviors, as well as autism spectrum disorders, learning problems, and intellectual disabilities. This Workshop reviews how children develop behavior problems; identifies core principles of PBMT, with a focus on task expectation-parental monitoring-reward to increase compliant and positive behaviors in children and adolescents; explains incorporating these principles into the child’s daily routine to reduce power struggles (negative reinforcement) and improve parental monitoring and supervision; and reinforces principles of PBMT through role playing exercises and the distribution of handouts.
