Learning Disabilities: Implications for Psychiatric Treatment

Child and adolescent patients often present with complex psychiatric and learning disorders. A solid understanding of the characteristics and presentation of learning disorders, and their effect on behavior, processing, and functioning, is essential to the diagnostic and treatment planning process. This Workshop increases understanding of various types of learning disorders and the interplay between learning and psychiatric disorders. Participants enhance their basic understanding of the psychoeducational diagnostic process and are able to critically evaluate the content, conclusions, and recommendations presented. How to develop the collaborative process necessary to translate the integrated assessment into effective treatment planning and service provision in school is discussed.
