Preventing the Use of Restraint and Seclusion
The prevention and reduction of aggressive behavior, and of restraint and seclusion, are major priorities in many child and adolescent psychiatric institutions, including inpatient units and residential treatment settings. This SIG presents an introduction to creating a restraint prevention initiative and provides updates on best practices. Collaborate with colleagues working on similar projects, learn an approach to creating a restraint prevention initiative, and discuss successful strategies, as well as difficult challenges, in preventing the use of restraint and seclusion in various clinical settings. Discussion benefits clinicians and administrators working in inpatient psychiatry units, residential facilities, detention centers, group homes, and therapeutic day schools.
