Child and adolescent patients often present with complex psychiatric and learning disorders. It is important that the child and adolescent psychiatrist has a good understanding of the characteristics and presentation of learning disorders and how these may affect behavior, processing, and function—elements essential to the diagnostic and treatment planning process. This Workshop increases awareness and understanding of the various types of learning disabilities and enhances the ability to incorporate this information into the treatment process. In addition, information is presented on federal regulations governing the provision of services to children with learning disabilities. Participants increase their understanding of the learning and cognitive challenges of their patients and the impact these issues have within the context of treatment.
