Voicing My CHOiCES™: A Workshop on Addressing Advance Care Planning for Adolescents and Young Adults
Discussing End-of-Life with adolescents and young adults is difficult, because of the sensitive nature of the issue and because of the need for developmentally appropriate language. Researchers at the National Cancer Institute and National Institute of Mental Health created a planning document, Voicing My CHOiCESTM, which includes developmentally appropriate language. This document may be useful for pediatric psychiatric consultation and pediatric palliative care services. Participants learn how to evaluate adolescents and young adults, and health care providers, with regard to discussing End-of-Life issues; and gain experience in implementing the planning document.
