Workshop 14 (ticket)
Disaster Psychiatry: Updates to the Field

Child and adolescent psychiatrists who wish to serve in disasters need to gain an understanding of disaster systems, public risk communication, and psychological first aid. This workshop reviews these topics and gives participants a vivid sense of systems issues, and the environment for triage, evaluation, and treatment confronting child and adolescent psychiatric responders. Participants learn which children are most at risk, methods for effective triage, and a broad range of post-disaster interventions; understand how to evaluate, intervene, and, where appropriate, treat children and families at different phases post-disaster; understand ethical and legal considerations; and learn how to be trained to serve in disasters.
