An Update in Advanced Psychopharmacology for Practitioners
Over the past decade, there has been a rapid increase in pharmacotherapy with children and adolescents who have psychiatric disorders. This Institute goes beyond the basics and delves into the challenges child and adolescent psychiatrists face when they encounter complicated cases requiring more advanced psychopharmacology. It provides contemporary information and a higher level of understanding of medication use in general and, in particular, in refractory or more complicated youth with psychopathology. All presenters start with a brief case vignette that becomes the basis for discussing specific psychopathologies in children and adolescents, including prodromal and full psychotic disorders, bipolar disorder, treated and untreated anxiety disorder, major tic disorders, autistic spectrum disorders, strategies for simple and refractory obsessive compulsive disorder, and substance abuse. Long-term management and long-term outcomes are reviewed where possible.
