Clinical Consultation Breakfast 2 (sold out)
Gender Nonconformity and Dysphoria Across Development: What the Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist Needs to Know

Gender nonconforming and dysphoric children, adolescents, and their families face specific challenges in the clinical setting. Distinct from issues around sexual orientation, treating a child or adolescent presenting with nonconforming expressions of gender requires careful consideration of many factors and a detailed understanding of the complex issues across developmental contexts. Seeking consultation from providers who have experience working with gender patients is likely to be helpful for those with unanswered questions or little experience with these complex issues. This CCB provides an awareness of the existing literature; informs clinicians about current interventions that exist across the developmental spectrum for gender nonconforming and dysphoric youth; and discusses practical strategies that can be used when approaching assessment and treatment of youth presenting with gender-related issues to promote healthy psychological wellbeing.
