Clinical Consultation Breakfast 1 (ticket)
Culturally Informed Child Psychiatric Practice
Child and adolescent psychiatrists in the United States are treating an increasing number of non-European, ethnically, racially, and culturally diverse children and youth. Since most of our science is based on Western cultural concepts, there are numerous cultural considerations around effective diagnosis, formulation, treatment selection, and adherence that need to be addressed in order to prevent cultural, racial, and ethnic disparities in child mental health services. AACAP’s recently published Practice Parameters on Culturally Competent Care and the DSM-5 Cultural Formulation are the basis for discussion that explores how to effectively use both culturally informed and evidence-based approached when treating culturally diverse children and adolescents. This is an opportunity to obtain expert consolation around the cultural needs of your patients.
