Valentine Road: A Documentary About Teenage Homophobia, Murder, and Juvenile Justice

Sexual and/or gender minority children and adolescents are frequent victims of harassment, bullying, victimization, and violence, including murder; and many professionals lack knowledge and experience dealing with issues of violence and victimization of youth based on sexual orientation and gender identity. The 2013 documentary Valentine Road illustrates issues of victimization against sexual and gender minority youth and looks at trials of juveniles charged as adults. Heartbreaking and riveting, the film produces intense emotions and provides as springboard for presenters and attendees to discuss types of violence, including murder; perpetrators, including other youth; and factors involved in trying a juvenile as an adult, including how jury decisions can be made.
