Traumatic Brain Injury: Psychiatric and Educational Diagnosis and Management
Psychiatric disorders that occur after a child or adolescent traumatic brain injury (TBI) pose major challenges to community re-entry and to quality of life. Under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, educators are mandated to provide services to children with TBI. Findings related to pediatric TBI and psychiatric disorders and symptoms are presented, and educational challenges and outcomes are discussed. Attendees increase their knowledge of phenomenology, risk factors, and treatment of psychiatric disorders associated with TBI in children, and are introduced to models of collaboration between psychiatrists and education specialists to enhance school reintegration and school function.
