CPT 101: An Introduction to Coding and Reimbursement
The CPT Psychiatry code section was completely re-written in 2013. The changes in the coding system now require psychiatrists to utilize the standard Evaluation and Management (E/M) codes for all medical services provided. For psychotherapy services, psychiatrists must use add-on psychotherapy codes, a new concept for psychiatrists. Another new concept, interactive complexity, may also be billed as part of the service. This CCB gives early career psychiatrists and trainees an introduction to the new CPT coding system so they can utilize it properly in their practices. Participants become familiar with the general concepts of CPT coding, learn to analyze medical decision-making to determine the correct code, and learn to document the services correctly and efficiently.
