Two Stories of Crossing Worlds: Native Time and Maori Boy Genius

There is limited literature and media that illuminates the interface of the indigenous experience with western society. These two films illuminate compelling facets of the “contemporary indigenous adolescent experience” in a fashion highly useful for child and adolescent psychiatrists trying to understand indigenous patients’ developmental passage and the perils they face. The films are a unique way to connect with the inner world and worldview of indigenous youth, and the life narratives provided foster appreciation and insight that attendees can bring into the healing process when working with indigenous adolescents.
