Workshop 14 (ticket)
Disaster Psychiatry: Updates to the Field
This Workshop informs child and adolescent psychiatrists (CAPs) about disaster trauma and disaster services. Attendees learn the types and phases of disasters and systems of disaster response; how to prepare for disasters; how to evaluate, intervene, and, where appropriate, treat children and families at different phases post-disaster; about ethical and legal considerations, as well guidelines for public communication; and how to be trained to serve in disasters. Directions are suggested for how CAPs may assist parents, schools, pediatricians, and other community members.
