Challenges in Private Practice
Over 50 percent of early career child and adolescent psychiatrists work in either a solo private practice setting or in a group practice. To be successful in practice, child and adolescent psychiatrists need more than just clinical expertise. They need a thorough understanding of and training in the business side of medicine; training that is frequently lacking in residency programs. This SIG provides a collaborative forum for private practitioners to gather and share their challenges; discuss important business decisions, such as electronic medical records and managed care contracts; and explore solutions to practical matters encountered in private practice, such as growth of the practice and life-work balance.
