Workshop 12 (ticket)
Practical Applications of Family Assessment and Interventions for Mental Health Professionals
A new understanding of family therapy that touches on systemic family interventions helps clinicians develop creative solutions for recurrent problems. Participants review the principles of family assessment in different clinical scenarios and learn ways the family system contributes to or exacerbates individual psychopathology. This includes identifying specific aspects of family structure and functioning that are responsive to family-based interventions. Specific family interventions, such as joining, reframing, family rituals, prescribing symptoms, circular questioning, reflective listening, etc., are presented in different age groups. Case vignettes and videotaped family sessions facilitate interactive discussion, role-play, and problem solving.
