Problem-Based Learning in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
Problem-Based Learning (PBL) is a powerful educational strategy and is promoted by professionals and funding bodies as an appropriate and preferred strategy for professional education. In undergraduate medical education, it compares favorably with traditional learning, but it must fit within the framework of current accreditation requirements and guidelines. This SIG on PBL focuses on the basics of PBL, how to combine PBL with other teaching methods in child and adolescent psychiatry, and how PBL may be useful in meeting ACGME milestones. Participants discuss goals and priorities for future PBL research, exchange experiences using PBL, and consider ways to secure additional funding. There is a hands-on demonstration of PBL. Participants leave with a better understanding of PBL and specific ideas on how to improve their teaching programs.
