Metabolic Health in Pediatrics: Identification and Physical, Health, and Nutrition Intervention Strategies for Signs and Symptoms of Metabolic Risk Associated With Psychotropic Medications
The occurrence of appetite changes, excessive weight changes, and co-morbid health issues often increases when pediatric patients are on psychotropic medication. The implications to overall health, treatment, and follow-up are of great concern. This Workshop provides clinicians with a toolbox of identification and intervention strategies for Metabolic Syndrome associated with psychotropic medications. Participants increase their ability to identify common metabolic side effects of psychotropic medication; incorporate techniques of medical screening for weight-gain-induced comorbid conditions, along with nutrition and pharmacological assessment, into the treatment process; and define recommended health and lifestyle changes for patients and families.
